For that festive look
AN EXHIBITION cum sale of `Sameeksha' collection of exquisite
cotton and silk Ilkal saris, festival wear Paithanis and Kasuti
embroidered saris opens today at Fabindia, Ilford House, Woods
Road, off Anna Salai. The Ilkals and Paithanis charm with their
variety and exuberance.
The Ilkal saris come in bright plain colours, as also in very
attractive checks with typical woven borders. The cotton and silk
Ilkal saris have wide or narrow borders with woven `tope tene'
pallavs. The Kasuti embroidery has been done with great effect on
plain Ilkal saris with a sprinkling of typical motifs in
conjunction with the border, pallav etc. The Ilkals get a very
festive and value-added look with the sophisticated Kasuti style
stitches. The richness of Paithanis too have been further
enhanced by the Kasuti and Negi embroidery styles, making them
dazzling, couture wear. The Ilkal weave has also been used with
great effect to style fascinating salwar kurta ensembles. Again,
a touch of Kasuti lifts the bright coloured salwar suits to high
fashion ensembles. `Sameeksha' employs women from poor economic
background for whom Ilkal and Kasuti have now become a way of
life and a tool for empowerment. The Sameeksha exhibition will be
on till October 21.
