Blair counsels restraint
London, Oct. 19. The British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, has urged India and Pakistan to exercise ``restraint'' and said the only way to resolve their differences is through negotiations, ``not through violence.''

'Taliban waiting for ground war'
Islamabad, Oct. 19. Within hours after Washington disclosed that a small contingent of commandos were in Afghanistan in what could be the beginning of the deployment of ground forces, the Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan, Mullah Abdul Saleem Zaeef, declared here that there was no change in the Taliban policy on Osama bin Laden and that it was ready for a ground war.

Pak. warns of consequences
Islamabad, Oct. 19. The Press Secretary to the Pakistan President, Maj. Gen. Rashid Qureshi, has said that ``Indians know well that if they resort to any adventure they will suffer tremendous losses''.

FIR filed against VHP leaders
Ayodhya, Oct. 19. The Central Reserve Police Force, in-charge of inner cordon security at the makeshift temple at the Ramjanma Bhoomi-Babri Masjid complex, today filed an FIR against Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders in connection with the storming of the sanctum sanctorum on Wednesday even as proposals have been made for declaring Ayodhya a `no-flying zone' and strengthening of police deployment.

'Orders not violated'
New Delhi, Oct. 19. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad today came out in defence of the forcible entry by its leaders at the makeshift Ram temple at Ayodhya and maintained the organisation leaders did not violate any orders.

SC rejects plea on U.P. CM
New Delhi, Oct. 19. The Supreme Court today rejected an interim application seeking directions to restrain the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal from functioning on the ground that they had completed their five-year term and also stoppage of salary and allowances to the Ministers and MLAs.
