H.P. asked to tap hydel potential fully

SHIMLA, OCT. 20. Himachal Pradesh should take effective steps to
tap the remaining hydel potential as it has a vast natural
potential which can make it a dedicated State like Switzerland,
the Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani said today.Mr. Advani,
who was inaugurating the 86 MW Malana hydel power project in
Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, felt happy that the hydel project was
completed in a record time of 27 months. He also lauded the
efforts of Bhilwara Group and other companies involved in the
project constructed at a cost of Rs. 320 crores. Himachal Pradesh
will get two per cent power free from this project and earn Rs.
15 crores every year.
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal, said
the State has one fourth of the total hydel power potential in
the country and it will have the privilege of contributing 21000
MW in the total target of generating one lakh mw fixed at the
national level by the year 2012.
Mr. Dhumal urged the Union Home Minister to consider the State
Government's request for imposing generation tax and water cess.
