Kashmir policy
Sir, - It is a pity that the Centre has no clear- cut policy on
Kashmir. The Defence Minister and Home Minister air different
opinions on the matter. The Pakistan President, Gen. Musharraf,
and the U.S. Secretary of State, Gen. Colin Powell, feel that
Kashmir is the central issue, whereas India feels that it is one
of the major issues. Let us remind them that Jammu and Kashmir is
an integral part of India. As long as militants attack our
forces, we cannot have talks with Pakistan.
The demand of the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq
Abdullah, that the State should be given more autonomy is also
untenable as it is already enjoying more autonomy than Tamil Nadu
or Kerala.
Ambady Padmanabhan,
