TDP leader shot at, injured
By Our Staff Reporter
NIZAMABAD, OCT. 22. A Telugu Desam Party ZPTC member, Mr. Syed
Abdul Kalam, representing the Kerameri mandal in Adilabad
district, was shot at and injured by suspected People's War Group
naxalites in Dhannora village under the Kerameri police station
limits late last night.
Reports reaching here said that two members of the banned outfit,
said to belong to the Jodeghat Local Guerrilla Squad, came to the
residence of Kalam and asked him to come out. The ZPTC member,
who was watching television, came out when the two naxals started
dragging him away.
As the victim raised the alarm, family members, including women,
came to his rescue and pleaded with the naxals to spare his life.
A naxal, clad in dhoti and kurta, whipped out a short weapon and
fired three rounds at Kalam, injuring him.
The niece of the ZPTC member, who was nearby, sustained a bullet
injury. The injured were rushed to the Kagaznagar area hospital
and later shifted to Hyderabad. The police said the condition of
the injured persons was stable.
The Adilabad Superintendent of police, Mr. Mahesh M.Bhagwat,
condemned the attack, and said Kalam was neither on the hitlist
of the PWG nor had he done anything against the banned outfit.
