Railway station blasted

By Our Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM, OCT. 29. Naxalites of the People's War Group (PWG) blasted a railway station and snatched four VHF sets from guards and drivers of two trains last night.

According to police, seven armed naxalites including a woman stormed the Kuneru railway station near Parvathipuram at about 11-10 p.m. when the Visakhapatnam-Durg (230 Dn) passenger train was ready to leave the platform. Two naxalites went to the guard compartment and two more to the engine driver and snatched the VHF sets from their possession.

When Mr. N. Satyanarayana, Assistant Station Master, came out of his room to find out why the train did not leave the platform in spite of signalling, three more naxalites approached him and asked him to remove his belongings, if any. When Mr. Satyanarayana told them that there was nothing inside, the naxalites took him to a distance and blasted the room with detonators. In the incident, signal and telecommunication equipment was completely damaged. After the passenger train left the station, they stopped a goods train bound for Visakhapatnam and snatched two VHF sets from the guard and the engine driver.
