4 AI officials suspended for security lapse
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, OCT. 31. Air India has suspended four senior officials
in connection with the security fiasco resulting in two Afghans
traveling to Heathrow by its London-bound flight on Sunday
without tickets and travel documents.
Incidentally, the airlines decided to act only after the Union
Civil Aviation Minister took a serious view of the incident which
came just as the Ministry launched the Aviation Security Week.
Those suspended pending an internal inquiry are the general
manager (commercial). Others placed under suspension are the duty
manager, commercial, senior manager (security) and duty manager
(security).
Sources said the two passengers along with two other Afghan
nationals had, on reaching London, asked the British immigration
authorities for political asylum. All of them are being
questioned by the British authorities.
