Secretaries' meet on Enron fails

NEW DELHI, OCT. 31. An yet another meeting of the group of Secretaries to resolve the Enron issue has failed to come out with any acceptable solution. The Finance Secretary, Mr. Ajit Kumar, and the Power Secretary, Mr.Ashok Basu, today held a meeting with financial institutions to work out a solution to the issue, preferably before the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, visits the U. S. next month.

Emerging from the meeting, the Chairman of the IDBI, Mr. P.P.Vora, told reporters that no satisfactory solution to the issue had yet emerged. Indian financial institutions have an exposure of Rs.6,200 crores in the Dabhol Power Company which has been promoted principally by Enron Corporation.
