Secretaries' meet on Enron fails
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, OCT. 31. An yet another meeting of the group of
Secretaries to resolve the Enron issue has failed to come out
with any acceptable solution. The Finance Secretary, Mr. Ajit
Kumar, and the Power Secretary, Mr.Ashok Basu, today held a
meeting with financial institutions to work out a solution to the
issue, preferably before the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee,
visits the U. S. next month.
Emerging from the meeting, the Chairman of the IDBI, Mr.
P.P.Vora, told reporters that no satisfactory solution to the
issue had yet emerged. Indian financial institutions have an
exposure of Rs.6,200 crores in the Dabhol Power Company which has
been promoted principally by Enron Corporation.
