'VHP keen on temple at disputed site'

By J. Venkatesan

NEW DELHI, OCT. 31. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was committed to building a temple at the same place where the idol of Lord Rama was being worshipped today in Ayodhya, said the vice- president of VHP, Acharya Giriraj Kishore, before the Liberhan Commission.

Deposing before the panel, he said the movement for the construction of the temple was never political and asserted that ``we will build the temple at the disputed site.'' Explaining his stand, Mr. Kishore said, ``Ram temple could be built at any place, but Ram Janmabhoomi temple could only be built at a place where the entire Hindu community believes He was born,'' he said adding ``the place of ancient `garbha griha' of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple was unchangeable.''

To a question from counsel for the Commission whether a resolution passed by the VHP on the eve of election reflected political fervour to the movement, Mr. Kishore said, ``the resolution only reflected our political philosophy that the next Government should follow the faith of Hindutva''.
