First woman IPS officer to command parade

HYDERABAD, OCT. 31. Yet another male bastion was stormed when Ms
Laxmi Singh won the distinction as the first woman IPS officer to
command the prestigious Dikshant Parade at the National Police
Academy here on Wednesday.
By virtue of her best all-round performance in the 53rd batch of
IPS officer trainees, she bagged the Prime Minister's Baton and
Home Ministry's Revolver and the honour to command the parade.
In the presence of the Vice-President, Mr. Krishan Kant Singh and
other dignitaries, Ms. Singh commanded the parade in style,
drawing repeated applause from the gathering on Wednesday
morning.
It was a proud moment for her father, Mr.Inder Dev Singh, an
advocate, when she received the baton and the revolver from the
Vice-President.
A resident of Uttar Pradesh, Ms Singh also led the largest team
of eight IPS women officers to pass out from the portals of the
academy in any single batch.
Twentysix-year-old Ms Singh boasts of an illutrious academic
career, having figured among the ten top rankers of the B.Tech
course and winning three gold medals. Her services have been
earmarked for West Bengal.
Mr.J.P.Singh, allotted to Himachal Pradesh Cadre, won the
Bhubannanda Misra Memorial Trophy for the second best all round
trainee IPS officer.
