Victorious despite dissent
By Our Staff Reporter
TIRUCHI, OCT. 31. Notwithstanding the discord within the DMK-led
alliance in the Tiruchi Corporation Council, the party candidate,
Mr. M. Anbazhagan, won by a comfortable margin the indirect
elections to Deputy Mayor here today.
Two of the four BJP councillors stayed away voting. Out of the
total 59 votes polled (including that of the Mayor Mrs.Charubala
R.Tondaiman-TMC), Mr.Anbazhagan secured 34, while Mr. R. Manohar
of the AIADMK tallied 25.
The AIADMK-TMC combine could muster just four votes above its
strength. Later, speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Anbazhagan parried
all questions on the spat between his party and the BJP. The DMK
would continue to cooperate with its alliance partners and other
parties in the council as directed by the party high command, he
said.
The DMK would extend full cooperation to Mrs.Tondaiman in
implementing development schemes for the city, he assured.
M. Anbazhagan (DMK)
