A dramatist elected in Salem
By Our Special Correspondent
SALEM, OCT. 31. The newly-elected Deputy Mayor, Mr. S. Soundappan
of the AIADMK, is quite popular among the people in the 57th
division.
This is for the second time he has been returned from the
division with a comfortable margin.
Given the popularity of Mr.Soundappan in the division, no
candidate was willing to contest against him. He has established
close rapport with the erstwhile Mayor, Dr G. Soodamani, and
therefore, some began to doubt his loyalty too.
The local unit of the AIADMK had in fact prepared a panel of
names-including Mr Soundappan, Mr Shanmugham and Mr M. K.
Selvaraj, but finally the party high command had cleared his name
and this speaks of his hold in the party.
Mr.Soundappan is closely associated with the development of Tamil
dramas, and it cannot be an exaggeration to state that he has
revived this art form in its pristine purity.
S. Soundappan (AIADMK)
