Saudi Prince in Pakistan
By B. Muralidhar Reddy
ISLAMABAD, NOV. 1. The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Prince
Saud Al-Faisal, arrived here tonight on an unscheduled `short
working visit' amid speculation that the U.S. and its allies are
engaged in an exercise to end the stalemate in Afghanistan.
The prince, who came as the Special Envoy of the Saudi King, Fahd
Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, called on the Pakistan President, Gen.
Pervez Musharraf, and delivered a personal message from the King.
Prince Saud Al-Faisal briefed Gen. Musharraf on the recent visit
of the British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, to Saudi Arabia,
and discussed the evolving situation in the region.
He reiterated Saudi Arabia's support to the General's `courageous
and far-sighted decision' to stand by the international community
in the war against terrorism. He also conveyed the Saudi support
for Pakistan's efforts to bring an early end to the Afghan
conflict and facilitate the formation of a broadbased, multi-
ethnic post-Taliban government.
