Modern lighting systems inaugurated

HYDERABAD, NOV. 1. The high-level Coordination Committee went around parts of the city inaugurating several modern lighting systems installed at a cost of over Rs. 50 lakhs.

The evening's visit started with the inauguration of a project estimated at Rs. 8.5 lakhs, including the cost of the modern lighting, and a `Shatha Dhara' fountain in the Pocket Park beside the Visveswaraiah Statue at Khairtabad. The Minister for Municipal Administration, Mr. N.Md. Farooq, inaugurated the works.

Later, the committee drove over to Nanal Nagar junction on the road leading to Langar Houz, where the modern lighting system was inaugurated by the Karwan MLA, Mr. Syed Sajjad. The MLA also switched on another lighting system at the Rethibowli junction.

Other lighting systems, switched on by the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH), Dr. Mohanty, included one at the AC Guards Junction and one near the Niloufer Hospital. The officials who went around the city included the Additional Commissioner-MCH, Mr. P. Ranadhir Reddy, Additional Director, Mr. Omar Jaleel, Chief Engineer, Mr. Om Prakash and the Deputy General Manager (Telecom) Mr. Janardhana Rao.

Briefing presspersons at the end of visit, Dr. Mohanty said that while there were 4,000 modern lighting systems until last year, the MCH had installed 4,000 in one year. There were proposals to install 2,000 more next year, he said, adding that a sum of Rs. 25 crores had been sanctioned for erection of modern street lighting all over the city.
