The 437th-ranked Rushmi Chakravarthi ran into the 179th-ranked top seed Christina Wheeler of Australia in the first round, and lost 1-6, 5-7. Sai and Rushmi will be looking to make a positive impression in the doubles, as the fourth seeds take on Nicole Rencken of South Africa and Sarah Stone of Australia in the pre- quarterfinals.
