Businessman kidnapped, released

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, NOV. 9. A city-based businessman was kidnapped and released after he gave about 40 sovereigns of gold jewellery to the abductors, a couple of days ago.

A four-member gang came to the house of Mr. Lalith Kumar (51) at Kariappa Street in Vepery and demanded money. They threatened to kill him if he did not give the amount.

Fearing attack, Mr. Lalith called his son, Mr. L. Mahendra Jain, and both were taken in a car to the Ambattur Industrial Estate by the kidnappers.

The abductors asked Mr.Lalith to give cash for his release. But the victim said he had no cash but only jewellery which the abductors accepted.

Following this, Mr. Mahendra Jain handed over 36 sovereigns of jewellery and secured his father's release.

A case has been registered with the Vepery police on Thursday.
