Reject terrorism by any name: Vajpayee

today called for ``firm'' steps to ``rebuff any ideological,
political or religious justification for terrorism''.
Terrorism-sponsors will pay a price: Bush
United Nations, Nov. 10. Arguing that the time for sympathy has
passed and that for action has arrived, the U.S. President, Mr.
George W. Bush, called on the United Nations to step up the
campaign against terrorism.
WTO is not a global government: Maran
Doha, Nov. 10. The Union Commerce Minister, Mr. Murasoli Maran,
today reiterated India's opposition to a comprehensive new round
of trade talks at the WTO that would deal with ``non-trade
issues'' such as foreign investment, competition policies and
environment, and asked the Doha ministerial conference to instead
give a clear mandate for addressing the trade problems of the
developing countries.
Musharraf looking for 'specific gestures'
New York, Nov. 10. The U.S President, Mr. George W. Bush, is
expected to have wide- ranging discussions with the Pakistan
President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, when the two meet late this
evening for formal talks which will be followed by dinner. Mr.
Bush is expected to meet as many as nine world leaders in one day
in New York.
Taliban foes claim capture of third province
Islamabad, Nov. 10. The Afghan opposition claimed the capture of
a third province today as the Taliban militia staged a strategic
withdrawal from the far north of the embattled country.
Osama threatens to use n-weapons
Islamabad, Nov. 10. Osama bin Laden, the man most-wanted by the
U.S. and its allies, has threatened to use nuclear and chemical
weapons if the U.S. takes recourse to the nuclear route.
Howard wins the polls
Sydney, Nov. 10. The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. John Howard,
swept back to power for a historic third term today in a triumph
widely attributed to the strength of public support for his
hardline refugee policies.
Al-Badr leader killed
Jammu, Nov. 10. The security forces have gunned down the district
commander of Al-Badr in Gurdanbala area in Rajouri district of
Jammu region in the early hours today. Defence sources said the
commander, Abu Tarrar Khanan, was an Afghan and had infiltrated
recently.
Deal struck on Kyoto pact
Marrakesh (Morocco), Nov. 10. The Environment and Energy
Ministers from around the world today agreed on the fine print of
the landmark Kyoto pact to limit global warming, paving the way
for its implementation next year, delegates said.
India, U.S. for 'new strategic framework dialogue'
New York, Nov. 10. The U.S. and India have agreed to establish a
``new strategic framework dialogue'', expand cooperation in the
scientific sector by suitably extending it to space-related
engagement and to resume links in the sphere of civilian nuclear
safety.
PM not carrying any 'wish list' to U.K.
London, Nov. 10. When Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee arrives here on
Monday on his first-ever visit to Britain as the Prime Minister,
it would be the softest landing of his week-long diplomatic
