Terrorism-sponsors will pay a price: Bush
By Sridhar Krishnaswami
UNITED NATIONS, NOV. 10. Arguing that the time for sympathy has
passed and that for action has arrived, the U.S. President, Mr.
George W. Bush, called on the United Nations to step up the
campaign against terrorism.
``We are asking for a comprehensive commitment in this fight'',
Mr. Bush remarked in his first-ever address to the General
Assembly this morning. ``The time for action has now arrived'' he
said. He warned nations harbouring and supporting terrorists that
there would be a heavy price to pay for their actions, even while
offering the support and help of the U.S. to those lacking
facilities to fight terrorism.
Calling on nations and leaders to unite in opposing all
terrorists ``not just some of them'', Mr. Bush warned that
nations in the business of picking and choosing their terrorist
friends ``will know the consequences''.
``Some governments still turn a blind eye to the terrorists
hoping the threat will pass by them. They are mistaken'', he
said, even while making the point that ``for every regime that
sponsors terror, there is a price to be paid and it will be
paid''.
