Howard wins the polls
SYDNEY, NOV. 10. The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. John Howard,
swept back to power for a historic third term today in a triumph
widely attributed to the strength of public support for his
hardline refugee policies.
Although the Opposition had not conceded defeat, computer
projections gave Mr. Howard's Liberal-National coalition a likely
majority of 10 seats in an expanded 150-seat Australian
Parliament.
