CPI(M) flays price hike
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, NOV. 10. The hike in the prices of petroleum, diesel
and LPG has come in for severe criticism from the CPI(M).
The politburo said in a statement it was ``unfair and
unwarranted'' to pass on the burden of the third revision of
dealers' commission to the consumers.
The revision should have been met from the oil pool account, as
the international price of oil had not shot up as anticipated
after the September 11 incident.
``Such administrative hikes are unwarranted when Parliament is
slated to meet in less than two weeks,'' it said.
The hike in prices would have a cascading effect on the overall
price levels.
``The hikes have come at a when the living conditions of the
people are sharply deteriorating due to the overall impact of the
economic policies,'' the statement said.
