Chidambaram, new Principal Scientific Adviser

NEW DELHI, NOV. 10. The Centre today formally announced the
appointment of the former Chairman of the Atomic Energy
Commission, Dr. R. Chidambaram, as the new Principal Scientific
Adviser to the Government.
He takes over from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, who is retiring after
over four decades of distinguished service in various posts in
the Government to take up a new assignment as the ISRO
Distinguished Professor at the Indian Institute of Science,
Bangalore.
An experimental physicist by training, Dr. Chidambaram brings to
his new post rich experience in nuclear science.
He played a leading role in the design and execution of both the
peaceful nuclear explosions at Pokharan in 1974 and 1998.
