5,000 houses to be built in city under new scheme
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, NOV. 10. About 5,000 houses will be built in the
twin cities under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awaz Yojana Scheme to be
launched next month simultaneously here and in Delhi, according
to Mr.B.Dattatreya, Union Minister of State for Urban
Development.
He told presspersons here on Saturday, after launching two
waterlines in the Secunderabad and Musheerabad constituencies and
inaugurating two community halls in Himayatnagar constituency
during a `padayatra', that the scheme would be launched in Delhi
by the Prime Minister, Mr.A.B.Vajpayee.
About Rs.100 crores would be released under the first phase of
the scheme. During this phase four lakh houses would be
constructed throughout the country. Each house would cost
Rs.60,000, half of which would be given as soft loan by the
Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO). The amount is
repayable in 15 years at the rate of Rs.200 a month.
Under the National Slum Development Project (NSDP), Rs.54 crores
would be sanctioned this year and the next for creating
infrastructure in about 100 slums in the twin cities. The
facilities to be created included provision of drinking water,
under the Manjira phase IV in each dwelling and sanitation. The
water project would be taken up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan
Water Supply and Sewerage Board, he said.
The Minister reiterated the party's demand for diversion of the
Krishna waters to meet the city's drinking water needs. He said
once the State Government submitted its report on the Rs.650-
crore Krishna water scheme, he would strive to secure loan from
the HUDCO.
Mr.Dattatreya said as the MP from the city it was his
responsibility to discuss the issue of Krishna water supply and
housing under the Valmiki Ambedkar Awaz Yojana Scheme for
Hyderabad with the Chief Minister, Mr.N.Chandrababu Naidu.
The cost of the works launched by him today included Rs.18 lakhs
for the water lines and Rs.6.15 lakhs for the community halls, he
said.
