Seminar on project management in IT

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, NOV. 10. Educational and career development in project management in the information technology (IT) as also other sectors is being brought closer home to professionals in Tamil Nadu with the ``PMI TamilNadu, India Chapter (P)" launching a seminar programme for aspiring professionals.

Started by a group of members of the Project Management Institute (PMI), U.S., including some of the leaders in the field, PMI TamilNadu, India Chapter (P) is organising two one-day programmes here on November 11 and November 20, focussing, respectively, on ``Project Management - Structure and Maturity, including Certification" and ``The future - Business Globalisation, IT and Project Management". The programmes will be held at the GRT Grand Days Convention Centre.

According to Mr. A. P. Jagathnarayanan, Vice-President, Coordination, of the chapter, by 2002 project management in Chennai would attain the same level of importance in the business world as equal to that in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi or even more. Though the chapter, headed by Dr. P. N. Sridharan, is at present mostly IT-oriented, it hopes to cover other industries in future.

PMI, whose membership can be applied for on-line (www.pmi.org/membership), brings out three serial publications for members. These include ``PM Network", a monthly, ``PMI Today", a supplement, and ``Project Management Journal", a quarterly.

Recognised by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) as an American National Standard, PMI's standards document (revised edition of 2000), commonly referred to as the PMBOK Guide, is also available in the form of CD-ROM.

Those interested in participating in the TamilNadu PMI's seminars can get more details over email from angyan@md3.vsnl.net.in.
