New CJ for AP

NEW DELHI, NOV. 13. The President has appointed Mr. Justice Arunachalam Chettiar Lakshmanan, Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, to be the new Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

He has been asked to assume charge of the new office on or before November 28. Mr. Justice Lakshmanan told The Hindu over the telephone tonight that he would assume charge on November 21.

Mr. Justice Lakshmanan was appointed Judge of the Madras High Court in June 1990. In December 1997, he was transferred as Judge of the Kerala High Court, where he later had acted as Chief Justice on two occasions.

In May 2000, he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. During his tenure, he revamped the entire judiciary in Rajasthan. He is also the first Chancellor of the National Law School at Jodhpur.
