Two receive bullet injuries in Cong.-BJP clash

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, NOV. 13. Two Congress workers were injured when a BJP worker opened fire at them following a group clash in Kumaraswamy Layout on Monday night.

Trouble began when Raju of the layout and Basavaraju of Iliyaz Nagar, both employees of Asha Tours and Travels, assaulted and robbed Ms. Maya Vasanth at her house. The travel firm is owned by Mr. Ramanna, a Congress worker.

Raju and Basavaraju warned Ms. Vasanth that her husband would have to face the consequences as he had supported the BJP in the November 11 elections to the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP). Before escaping, they snatched a gold chain from her.

Ms. Vasanth filed a complaint in Kumaraswamy Layout Police Station.

When he came to know about the incident, Balakrishna, who is former president of the Pattangere City Municipal Council, went to the office of the travel firm at 63rd Cross of the layout with Vishnu, Soma, Venkatesha, Muniraju, Nagesh, and several others. Even as the workers of the Congress and the BJP were confronting each other, a car belonging to the firm and its office were damaged. In the melee, Balakrishna, who lives at Yelachenahalli, opened fire at the Congress workers with his licenced pistol. Krishna and Mohan received bullet injuries. Mohan was hurt in his right thigh, and Krishna in his right shoulder. They were shifted to Victoria Hospital, and are reported to be out of danger.

The Kumaraswamy Layout police have arrested Balakrshna, Vishnu, Soma, Venkatesh, Muniraju, and Nagesh. The pistol has been seized.
