Musharraf warns India

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD, NOV. 16. The Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, has accused India of ``preparing for adventurism against'' Pakistan through various excuses and tactics.

In a message to the nation on the eve of Ramadan, Gen. Musharraf did not directly mention the name of India but left no one in doubt whom he was referring to when he talked of the ``threat from across the border.''

On the one hand, Pakistan was continuing its campaign against terrorism and paying a price and, on the other, ``our old foe appeared busy in preparing for adventurism against us through various excuses and tactics.''

Gen. Musharraf said his Government was doing its best to steer the country out of the current tribulation. ``It is our utmost endeavour to safeguard the country's interests from negative impacts of current situation.''

Some extremist elements within the country were also trying to involve the Government in an unwanted confrontation. ``But his Government was busy fighting these challenges. The need of the hour was national cohesion.
