TRS to step up campaign on G.O. 610
By Our Staff Reporter
KHAMMAM, NOV. 18. The Telangana Rashtra Samiti would step up its
campaign for the implementation of the GO No. 610 which was
intended for giving the youth of the region their due in the
employment opportunities, according to the TRS chief, Mr. K.
Chandrasekhar Rao. Addressing a news conference here on Sunday,
he said that it would be one of the main issues on which big
rally would be organised in Hyderabad in December.
The party would decide its future course of action depending upon
the response of the Government. If it still remained insensitive
to the issue, the TRS would give the `Chalo Delhi' call for
organising an agitational programme near the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Thousands of people would be mobilised to Delhi for the programme
to insist on the imposition of President's rule. He said that
statutory safeguards framed to give the people of Telangana a
fair deal were undermined.
The Go No. 610 was issued after an indepth study of the
employment situation in the region by a three-member committee
which found that 58,920 jobs meant for the Telangana were being
enjoyed by those from the Andhra region. The order sought the
repatriation of all such employees to their native districts. He
said that the order issued as a safeguard against the raw deal
being meted out to the region sought repatriation of the people
from Andhra enjoying the jobs meant for Telangana before March
31, 1986. But it could not be materialised.
He said that Khammam district would benefit by the GO by about
10,342 jobs. The Communists who often make a hue and cry over
every issue, preferred to be silent over the loss of employment
opportunities. What interests prevailed on them, he questioned.
He said Khammam was meted out a raw deal on many counts. The
Dummugudem project had the potential to extend irrigation
facility for over 4.5 lakh acres, but there was no decision yet
on the demand for a major irrigation project on it.
The Kinnerasani waters were yet to be given for irrigation needs.
The Nagarjuna Sagar left canal never received its allotted quota
of 132 TMC. The region would get its due only when Telangana
achieved its statehood. He said that the TRS decision to contest
in the recently concluded panchayati raj election was only a
strategic move. It had a cascading effect in the ground level.
The party flag was received and held aloft by people in over
15000 base units such as municipal councils, gram panchayat wards
in the region.
While the party had spent about Rs 10 crores to Rs 12 crores on
the organisational activities right from its inception, its
cadres and candidates could add to the resource utilisation by
two to three time at their level. Every step was being taken
carefully and the party was not expecting statehood for Telangana
overnight. It was inevitable. The TRS would go ahead as per its
own time frame to achieve it. The mistakes committed earlier the
movements for separate Telangana would not be committed again.
Mr. Chandrasekhar dispelled the fears of migrants from other
regions who settled over the years in the region saying the TRS
was against only those who deprived the people of their living
and not those who had come to find a living. He said over 40 lakh
people from Telangana had migrated to neighbouring pockets in
Maharashtra and they had been living happily there. So was the
case with many who had left for the United States. There was
nothing unusual in going places in search of a better living.
When investments were being invited from West Bengal and others
states by extending liberal support of land and power, the
investments from Andhra would also be welcomed. The Telangana
agitation failed earlier because the slogans lacked the `human
angle', he said.
