Srinath's South African haul

***Herschelle Gibbs' 196 was the highest individual score made at this ground. He bettered the previous highest score of 174 made by team-mate Lance Klusener against England in December 1999.

Gibbs, meanwhile bettered the previous highest score made by an opening batsman at this ground, which was the 157 by Australian Arthur Morris in March 1950.

***Incidentally, Gibbs' 196 was the highest score made by a South African batsman not scoring a double hundred.

The previous highest such score was the unbeaten 189 by Bruce Mitchell (v England at the Oval in August 1947) and Jacques Kallis (v Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in September 2001).

***Javagal Srinath's six wickets has taken his tally of wickets on South African soil to 41 in eight matches. Now only England's pace bowler Syd Barnes (49 wickets in 4 matches in 1913-14) and Australian leg-spinner Clarrie Grimmett (44 wickets in 5 matches in 1935-36) among visiting bowlers have more wickets than Srinath on South African soil.

***The wicket of Tendulkar was Shaun Pollock's 250th of his career in his 60th match. He becomes the second South African after Allan Donald (325 wickets in 69 matches) and the 24th bowler in Test history to do so.
