Housing expos in States soon

NEW DELHI, NOV. 18. The Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) would promote ``HUDCO Haat'' as a building technology exposition in all the state capitals with the active assistance of the respective local Governments and the Building Material and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC).

This was disclosed by the Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Affiliation, Mr. Ananth Kumar, during his visit to the HUDCO Build Tech Pavilion over the weekend. Mr. Kumar was accompanied by the Minister of State for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Mr. Bandaru Dattatreya, and the Chairman and Managing Director of HUDCO, Mr. V. Suresh.

Elaborating on the proposal, the Minister indicated that these centres would be established over a period of one year and would have three-dimensional display of houses for various income groups exhibiting the use and adoption of cost-effective and innovative building materials and technologies.

Appreciating the display of cost-effective building materials and technologies at the Build-Tech pavilion, the Minister said that as part of the Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana, HUDCO will support construction of four lakh houses annually in urban areas.

To implement the scheme, a Central grant of Rs.1000 crores will be provided and an additional Rs. 1000 crores would be made available as loan assistance from HUDCO, he added. The programme would also have a component of Total City Sanitation in which the local communities would be involved extensively.

Mr. Ananth Kumar launched the HUDCO Property Advisory Service which would be a source of information for potential property buyers. The information on availability of property for sale by public agencies as well as by private developers has been put up in the website. The information covers all the states and incorporates the status in all major cities.

Mr. V. Suresh, said a large number of housing finance institutions were participating in Buildtech' 2001 giving on-the- spot sanctions to beneficiaries. In addition, the display of different options for walling, roofing, flooring, doors/windows makes the exhibition comprehensive.
