Japan for restraint on Kashmir

TOKYO, NOV. 19. Ahead of the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee's visit next month, Japan today urged India and Pakistan to exercise ``self- restraint'' while dealing with the Kashmir issue.

Japan's view was expressed by its Deputy Foreign Minister, Mr. Toshiyuki Takano, during talks with the visiting Foreign Secretary, Ms. Chokila Iyer, the Kyodo news agency reported.

The two sides also emphasised the need for comprehensive measures to counter terrorism by involving more countries in the anti- terror fight, it quoted officials here as saying.
