Adasia 2001

By A Correspondent

TAIPEI (Taiwan), NOV. 19. The throbbing drums from a highly skilled bunch of aboriginals from the deep- end mountains of Taiwan gave a rousing welcome to over 300 delegates who had converged here to attend the first Asian Advertising Conference of the 21st century which commenced today.

The organisers have put together an exceptional schedule of topics and speakers who will cover the areas of New Advertising, New Media and New Revolution - all in line with the basic theme of the conference which is ``From Evolution to Revolution".

The congress could not have come in at a more appropriate juncture when the entire industry is confronted with a global slump and conflicting views of whether well thought-out advertising could once again fuel growth in a gloomy economy.

In his inaugural address, Mr. Chen Shui-Bian, president of the Republic of China, stated that advertising was always considered a barometer of the modernisation and vitality of a country. ``Its importance can never be overstated,'' he added.

A delegation from India comprising media owners, advertising agency heads and senior advertising and marketing professionals are attending the three-day conference.

A grand India Night is slated for tomorrow - a curtain-raiser indeed for Adasia 2003 which is slated to be held in Jaipur.
