Veerashaiva Bhavan to be built in Bangalore
By Our Staff Correspondent
BIDAR, NOV 19. The All-India Veerashaiva Mahasabha President, Mr.
Bheemanna Khandre, has said that a "Veerashaiva Bhavan" will be
built in Bangalore at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.
Participating in the 22nd Sharana Kammata being held at
Basavakalyan town here on Sunday, Mr. Khandre said that Sri
Murugharajendra Swamiji of Chitadurga Math, Sri Siddaganga Swami
and the Suttur Swamiji had promised to donate Rs. 10 lakh each to
the bhavan. The Basava Samiti had also promised to give Rs. 10
lakh. He called upon the other mathadhipathis and community
leaders to donate generously to the bhavan.
Mr. Khandre expressed his concern over violence and conflict in
various parts of the world. The menace of terrorism could be
combated if the Basava tatva was followed. It should be the aim
of all religions to eradicate terrorism, which posed a grave
threat to world peace, he added.
Mr. Khandre questioned the policy of the U.S. Government on
Afghanistan. The U.S., which had launched military action against
Afghanistan following the September 11 attack on the World Trade
Centre in New York, showed little concern over the destruction of
the statues of Buddha by the Taliban in that country. Mr. Khandre
also wondered why India did not react when the statues were
destroyed.
Mr. Khandre expressed his unhappiness over the lackadaisical
attitude of the Union Government to the killing of innocent
people in Kashmir as well as along the Bangladesh border.
"Although hundreds of people have been killed, the Government is
not taking any strong action.
Dr. M.S.Lathe spoke on "Contribution of Shivasharanas to world
peace", Ms. Sheela Tiwari on "The problems confronting women,"
and Mr. Linganna Satyampet spoke on "Human rights and terrorism".
Sri Siddarama Sharanaru of Beldal spoke.
