Woman files false complaint of robbery
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, NOV. 19. A woman, who suffered a loss in an alleged
chit business, on Monday filed a false complaint with the
Indiranagar police that she had been robbed of cash and gold
jewellery.
According to police, they received a complaint of robbery from
Kalai Selvi, wife of an ex-serviceman, Mr. Janardhan, and
resident of Lakshmipura. She told police that some persons had
come to her house and robbed her of gold jewellery and Rs. 80,000
in cash which she had earned from chit business. She said that
they had assaulted her, and that she was injured.
Top police officials who visited the spot doubted her narration
of the ``incident'' after she showed the ``injury'' on her
forehead. They realised that it was not caused in an attack, and
that it was self-inflicted. When police searched the house, they
found Rs. 55,000 in cash wrapped in newspaper sheets.
The woman reportedly confessed to police that she had suffered a
loss in chit business, and that her husband was not aware of it.
She said she had pledged her jewellery with a pawn-broker for the
money.
Brown sugar seized: The officials of the City Crime Branch (CCB)
on Sunday arrested a drug peddler, and seized 21 grams of brown
sugar worth Rs. 1.05 lakh and Rs. 400 in cash from him.
According to police, Iliyaz alias Acid Iliyaz (43) was attempting
to sell brown sugar in front of a house on 1st Cross, Marappa
Gardens, J.C. Nagar, when he was arrested.
Youth killed in mishap: Sashidhar (26) was killed when the
scooter he was riding collided with a car on Residency Road on
Sunday night. The Ashoknagar police have registered a case.
Suicide: A resident of Binnypet `B' Block, Suresh Rao, committed
suicide by allegedly hanging himself in his house on Sunday
evening.
Rao, who got married three months ago, had been ailing from some
time.
The J.J. Nagar police have registered a case.
