Cong. celebrates Indira birth anniversary

HYDERABAD, NOV. 19. The former Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Ms.
Kumudben Joshi, today called for the empowerment of rural women
to tap their latent potential and mould them into leaders.
Speaking at the birth anniversary of Indira Gandhi organised at
Gandhi Bhavan, she said given the right opportunities they would
be second to none.
Ms. Joshi said Indira Gandhi had left an indelible mark on the
poor and downtrodden sections, who firmly believed that the
policies she had laid down continued to benefit them even today.
Mrs. J. Geetha Reddy, president of A. P. Mahila Congress, said
Indira Gandhi was a role model for all woman politicians. She
also lauded Ms. Joshi for being an activist Governor who
converted the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad into a ``Praja Bhavan''
where Congress leaders had free access.
The Mahila Congress felicitated four senior partywomen, Mrs. K.
Jayapradha Devi, Mrs. M. Lakshmi Devi, Mrs. T. Manemma and Mrs.
Vimala Devi for their contribution to the party. Ms. Joshi
presented them with shawls besides presenting certificates of
appointment to the new office-bearers of the Mahila Congress.
Mr. V. Hanumantha Rao, AICC secretary, Mr. N. Bhaskara Rao,
former Chief Minister, the vice-president of All India Mahila
Congress, Mrs. P. Lakshmi, Mrs. N. Rajyalakshmi and Mr. D.
Nagender, MLAs, were among those who took part in the meeting.
Earlier, several PCC leaders including Mr. D. Vittal Rao,
Treasurer, Mr. P. Sudhakar Reddy, general secretary, Mr. Ch.
Balraj, secretary, Mr. M. Anjan Kumar Yadav, president, City
Congress Committee and Mr. M. Narsing Rao, secretary, APCC BC
cell, distributed fruits to patients in the Osmania General
Hospital.
