BJP plans joint session of Parliament to pass POTO
New Delhi, Nov. 20. The Government today virtually read out the riot act to the Opposition on the Prevention of Terrorist Ordinance(POTO) which has to be converted into an Act this winter session if it is not to lapse - it was being suggested that either the Opposition support the Government to help it approve the ordinance in the Rajya Sabha, or it will get the POTO passed anyhow by calling a joint session of Parliament in which it will have the majority.

Amendments if necessary, says PM
New Delhi, Nov. 20. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, today strongly defended his own decision to re-induct Mr. George Fernandes into the Union Cabinet without waiting for the Venkataswami Commission to complete its inquiry into the Tehelka affair, the scandal that had earlier led to Mr. Fernandes' exit from the Government.

Hizb rules out role for foreign militants
Srinagar, Nov. 20. In a significant development, the militant outfit, Hizb-ul- Mujahideen, today ruled out any role for foreign militants in the ``policy decisions'' on Kashmir.

'Noose around Osama tightening'
Kabul, Nov. 20. Insisting that ``evil has no holy days,'' the U.S. bombarded Taliban strongholds today and vowed to tighten the noose around Osama bin Laden.

Gains from WTO substantial: Maran
New Delhi, Nov. 20. The Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Murasoli Maran, today said that rather than losing ground, India had achieved substantial gains at the Doha Ministerial conference of the World Trade Organisation.

'Prime Minister knew of temple entry'
New Delhi, Nov. 20. The Ayodhya issue today figured in the Rajya Sabha with the Opposition led by the Congress urging the Government to prevent construction by the VHP at the disputed site even as the CPI(M) accused the Prime Minister of `complicity' in VHP leaders' entry at the makeshift temple last month.

Replace Denness: BCCI
Kolkata, Nov. 20. The Board of Control for Cricket in India today demanded replacement of the ICC match referee, Mike Denness, who has handed down harsh punishments to Sachin Tendulkar and five other Indian cricketers now playing in South Africa.

Central team for Gujarat
New Delhi, Nov. 20. Even as the controversial genetically modified Bt Cotton was reportedly continuing to flood the market place in Gujarat, the Centre today sent a high-powered team to the State to help stem further flow of the crop into the commercial centres and ensure that they were procured by the Government quickly.
