5 killed, 12 injured in ghastly mishap

BANGALORE, NOV. 20. Five persons, including three women, were killed on the spot and 12 injured when the Canter mini lorry they were travelling in, collided with a lorry near the Shivagange Circle on Bangalore-Tumkur Road, about 50 km. from here, on Tuesday morning.

The mini lorry, which was completely damaged in the accident, was being taken to Tumkur by Mr. Ziaullah Sharief (55), an auto driver, for helping his relative there shift his house. Sharief and his wife, Ms. Shamshad Begum, his relatives, Ms. Sabira Begum and Ms. Shahzadi Begum, and the driver, Mr. Noor Ahmed Pasha, died on the spot. Police said the accident occurred when the lorry driver attempted to overtake another vehicle near a curve.

Police said the injured, said to be the relatives of the deceased, who were also in the mini-lorry, have been shifted to NIMHANS and HOSMAT in the City. Police said they were out of danger. At least two of them were children.

Police said the accident spot presented a ghastly picture. Mr. Narasimharaju, constable, said police had to pull out the bodies from under the vehicle. The people in the neighbourhood helped in removing the bodies and rescuing the injured persons.
