Oil vendor murdered on K.R. Puram Road

BANGALORE, NOV. 20. An oil vendor, Ramaprasad (45), was robbed of cash, and bludgeoned to death by two persons on K.R. Puram Road in the Hebbagodi police station limits on Monday night.

Police said the victim was returning home after closing his shop at around 11 p.m. when his assailants waylaid him near Chandapura Circle. They reportedly hit him on the head with a rod, and took away cash.

Ramaprasad was rushed to NIMHANS where he was declared dead on Tuesday at around 2 a.m. He was a resident of Lakshminarayanappa Street, Srirampuram. The Hebbagodi police have taken up a case of murder for gain.

Businessman cheated: A businessman from Tiptur, Tumkur District, was cheated of cash and gold jewellery, in all worth about Rs. 7 lakhs, by an unidentified youth in a bank in the Chickpet police limits on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 12.45 p.m., the victim, Mr. Jayaram, was filling a challan to deposit cash, at the Karur Vysya Bank on Avenue Road, when a youth approached him. The youth diverted Mr. Jayaram's attention, saying he had dropped Rs. 250 in cash. When Mr. Jayaram kept his bag on a table and went to check, the youth allegedly took it away. It contained Rs. 21,000 in cash and gold ornaments.

The Chickpet police have taken up a case.

Purse stolen: A purse with Rs. 9,000 in cash was stolen from two persons who were commuting by a BMTC bus on Monday.

According to the complainant, Mr. N. Raghavachar, Manager of the Karnataka Bank's Pavagada branch, his daughter and son-in-law were commuting by a BMTC bus (route No. 31) from N.R. Colony to Majestic, when the purse was stolen. The Victoria Hospital police have registered a case.

Arrested for murder: The Kalasipalyam police have arrested Muniswamy alias Juttu (29) in connection with the murder of N. Tangavelu (75) on October 14. Police have reportedly recovered gold ornaments worth about Rs. 15,000 from the accused.

Muniswamy and an accomplice allegedly stole 30 plastic basins from a shopping complex, and sold them to Tangavelu for Rs. 500. He paid them a first instalment of Rs. 200. On October 15, they approached Tangavelu for the rest of the money, and picked a quarrel with him. They allegedly strangled him, and took away gold jewellery worth Rs. 30,000.

The victim was reportedly in the business of selling stolen goods at the Sunday Bazaar. He was staying on the footpath on Kalasipalyam Fort Road.
