Health food expo from Nov. 23
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, NOV. 20. A food show, with the theme `Health on your
plate', nutrition education stall, checking of risk profile,
interactive session with nutrition experts, distribution of
education material would form part of this year's Health Food
Expo- 2001, to be organised by the Nutrifit, at the Birla Science
Centre from November 23 to 25.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr. B. Janaki, Dr.
Latha Sashi and Dr. P. Janaki Srinath of the Nutrifit, the diet
and nutrition counselling centre, said the theme was carefully
chosen to drive home the point that the plate holds more than a
mere meal -- health. On display would be balanced diets for
various stages in life, starting from pregnancy to old age.
The objective of the expo, to be inaugurated by the Chief
Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, was to create an awareness
about nutritious and balanced diets and remove many of the
misconceptions people still have, beginning with health food
being expensive and distasteful to identifying papaya, the wonder
fruit, as one which generates heat. ``There is nothing like good
or bad food or vegetarianism is right and non-vegetarian wrong.
What is important is striking a balance.''
Dr. B. Ravinder Reddy, gastro-enterologist of the MediCiti
Hospitals, said nutrition played an important role in maintaining
the health of an individual, from preventing diseases, treatment,
convalescence to regeneration process.
