Preserve culture
Sir, - It is a pity that the Government of India is treating
culture so callously. For three years, there was a Minister who
did very little or nothing for culture. Then he was changed and
Ms. Maneka Gandhi assumed charge. In the short period of three
months that she was in the Ministry, she initiated several
reforms.
Now because of an objection from Ms. Sonia Gandhi, on purely
personal grounds, Ms. Maneka Gandhi has been shifted out of the
Ministry. I have no objection to Mr. Jagmohan, for whom I have
great admiration. However, it is a pity that culture is being
treated so indifferently. If there is anything that India can
claim as an achievement, it is our cultural heritage. Why is a
nationalist party treating it so badly?
