Ranu a sole consolation

HYDERABAD, NOV. 20. Ms. Seema Chakraborty was the sole award winner for Indian films at the 12th International Children's Film Festival, which concluded here, by winning the Special Jury Award in the International Competition for her role as Ranu in the film Ranu directed by Mr. Shyamal Karmakar.

The awards won by Iranian films announced on Tuesday night were, the best director award to Mr. Rassul Sadr Ameli for the film `Girl in the Sneakers', best animation short film award to `Shangoul and Mongoul', directed by Mr. Farkhondeh Torabi and Mr. Morteza Ahadi in the International Competition section and the Asian Panorama prize for the film `Child and the Soldier' directed by Mr. Seyyed Reza Mir Karimi.

The Child jury adjudged the Slovak film, `Thomas The Falconer', directed by Mr. Vaclav Vorlicek, as the best film and it was awarded a golden plaque and Rs. 50,000 in cash.

The International Critic's Jury Award was given to the Scandinavian film `Tsatsiki, Mum and The Policeman', directed by Ms. Ella Lemhagen. This carried a golden plaque and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. This movie also bagged the best live action fiction feature film and was awarded the silver elephant and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000.

Mr. Dimitris Alexandris won a silver elephant and Rs. 25,000 in prize money as he was adjudged the best child artiste for the Greek film `Canary Yellow Bicycle'. Czech film `Media', directed by Mr. Paval Koutsky, won the best non-fiction film while German film `Lotte Primaballerina', directed by Mr. Marc-Andreas Bochert, won the best live action short fiction film. All the winners were given silver elephants and cash prize of Rs.50,000.
