Advani is wrong, says VHP
By Our Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD, NOV. 23. The Gujarat unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad
today strongly criticised the Union Home Minister, Mr. L. K.
Advani, for describing as ``wrong'' the VHP's action in entering
the Ayodhya temple and asserted that it was the birthright of
Hindus to enter any temple any time.
``It may be Mr. Advani's views but we differ. Mr. Advani is wrong
if he believed that the entry in the Ayodhya temple on October 17
was wrong,'' the State unit VHP general secretary, Mr. Dillip
Trivedi, said. Being in the government, Mr. Advani might talk
about taking actions but Hindus would not give up their right to
enter temples, Mr. Trivedi said.
He also criticised the BJP Government in the State which he said
had done precious little to implement the ``Hindu agenda.''
It had accepted 39 of the 40-point VHP agenda and had taken some
steps for cow protection but had not done enough to satisfy
Hindus.
The VHP support to the BJP was not automatic. It would lend
support to any party which agreed to implement the ``Hindu
agenda.'' Hindus had become united and strong and no party could
now ignore the ``Hindu agenda''. ``We have invited the Congress
president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, to join the ``Mahayagna'' and help
construct the Ram Janmabhoomi temple,'' he said.
Giving details of the ``Ram mantra yagna'' beginning from
November 26 as a prelude to construction of the Ram temple with
or without the government consent, Mr. Trivedi said that in
Gujarat over 10,000 persons would chant the ``mantra'' for 13
crore times in 65 days till January 31 at 512 ``siddhkshetras''
identified in the State, each comprising a cluster of 25 villages
or 25 housing societies in the urban centres.
This would include 65 clusters in Ahmedabad and the people would
have the option to chant the ``mantra'' at home or reach the
identified ``sidhhakshetra'', usually a temple complex.
Mr. Trivedi said the VHP had enough funds for construction and
carving of the stones had been completed upto the first floor.
A Rs. 8.25-crore corpus was created with donations in the
nineties and it had trebled and even after spending Rs. 13 crores
so far another about Rs. 11 crores was still left to complete the
temple.
