Naxals raid college, take away NCC rifles

By Our Staff Reporter

GUNTUR, NOV. 24. Naxalites belonging to the People's War Group (PWG) raided the campus of SS & N College in the heart of Narasaraopet town in the wee hours of Saturday and took away 30 drill practice rifles of the National Cadet Corps (NCC).

About 15 naxalites, including four women, clad in olive green uniforms, descended on the college campus from the rear side around 2.30 a.m. They came in a mini lorry, overpowered the watchman, Ramana, and his associate, and locked them up in a room.

Later, they went up to the sheds opposite the main building where the guns were stored. They thrashed a Gorkha, Bahadur, who was keeping guard of the shed, for resisting them. They took away 30 rifles and a light machine gun intended for drill practice.

The Superintendent of Police, Mr. J. Purnachandra Rao, said that the district secretary of the PWG, Mohan, another leader, Ganganna, and others participated in the operation.
