Basketball: AP women top group

LUDHIANA, NOV. 24. Andhra Pradesh topped group `A' of the women's section in the National Games basketball championship with a 67- 60 victory over Kerala at the Guru Nanak hall here on Saturday.

In a match which had no bearing on the semifinal qualification, Andhra trailed 29-30 at the break. Both the teams had already made the semifinal grade.

In another women's match, Punjab beat Karnataka 76-68 to finished third in group `A'. In an inconsequential men's match Karnataka beat Kerala 97-77.

The results:

Men: Group `B: Karnataka 97 (Sachindra 23, Murali Mohan 20, Austin Almeda 20, Basavaraj 10) beat Kerala 77 (Subhash Shenoy 20, Muralikrishna 14, Joe Antony 14, Santosh John 10).

Women: Group A: Andhra Pradesh 67 (Sofi Sam 21, Laiji U.P. 15, Yamuna Philip 15) beat Kerala 60 (P. Lajitha 14).

Punjab 76 (Prabhjot Gill 24, Mandeep Brar 17) beat Karnataka 68 (Dhaniya M. 22, Rajalakshmi 16, Savitha L.S. 10).
