Three policemen killed in J&K
By Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR, NOV. 25. Three policemen and a civilian were killed and
five injured in a pre-dawn fidayeen attack by militants on a
security forces camp in Banihal on the Srinagar-Jammu national
highway.
Police said a group of militants descended from the southern
hillock near the Jawahar Tunnel where a joint security camp of
the Indo-Tibetian Border Police (ITBP) and the Indian Reserve
Police (IRP) is located. The militants hurled grenades and opened
indiscriminate fire on the security personnel who stand guard at
the 2.5 km-long tunnel, the only surface link between Kashmir and
rest of the country.
The Lashkar-e-Taiba has claimed responsibility for the attack and
its spokesman, Mr. Abu Osama, said here that a two- member
fidayeen squad of the outfit carried out the attack.
