We didn't defy ICC rules, says UCB president
CENTURION, NOV. 25. The United Cricket Board (UCB) President, Mr.
Percy Sonn, said ``India wanted a Test match and we wanted a game
of cricket. As far as the UCB is concerned, it is a match without
official recognition from the ICC. It is subject to confirmation
at the ICC meeting in March next.''
The UCB chief said everything was done in a hurry. The UCB will
decide whether it will support BCCI's endeavour to get the Test
made official. ``We did not defy the ICC rules, but took the best
decision in the circumstances.''
Deflecting reports that the UCB would have asked India to return
home if the ICC had paid it 40 million rands, he said: ``I think
the statement exceeds the bounds of even the most stupid person's
imagination. Let me have the tapes first. We will have to seek
the help of forensic expert.''
