Lock-up deaths: policemen will face murder charges
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, NOV. 25. The Chief Minister, Mr. A.K. Antony,
has warned that police officials responsible for lock-up deaths
will be charged with murder.
Addressing a conference of senior police officials of the rank of
Superintendent of Police and above here today, the Chief Minister
said that lock-up deaths should not occur in the State under any
circumstances.
None should be kept in custody without recording arrest. The
guidelines and directives of the National Human Rights Commission
and the Supreme Court of India on arrests should be strictly
followed.
Mr. Antony directed that leaders of social and political
organisations should not be arrested over minor aberrations
relating to holding of meetings and demonstrations.
