Ready a reserve team
Sir, - The Australian Prime Minister, Mr. John Howard's concern
on the decision taken by the Indian and South African cricket
boards to remove the match referee and continue with the Test
match is rather surprising as he has to be happy that some boards
are against the referee's decisions and the ICC.
Till now the Australian players have been lucky enough not to be
fined or banned following their actions of sledging and arguing
with the umpire. May be Mr. Howard should find time and talk to
his country's board and players and ask them to improve their
behaviour. If Mike Denness is appointed referee for an Australian
match, they should select a reserve team to play the next match
if the referee shows the same consistency he showed against the
Indians. Then Mr. Howard would be the first to demand his
removal.
