POTO and Sangh Parivar

Sir, - For the last few days, BJP leaders have been making use of every opportunity to blast the Opposition parties for not supporting POTO in its present form. It is common knowledge that they are trying to make the people believe that only they are keen on doing away with terrorism. It is also quite obvious that in the process, they are trying to gain political mileage as in the case of Kargil.

Nevertheless, if the Centre can assure the people that POTO will be effectively used to curb terrorism of all kinds, we should welcome it because the same yardstick will have to be applied to the Bajrang Dal and other Sangh Parivar outfits, who are also terrorists. It is well known that Hindutva activists have been armed with `trishuls' to create terror and cause harm to those they hate. Will the Union Law Minister take care to see that POTO is used to protect the citizens from the onslaught of those who wish to divide the country on communal lines, since he has been the most vociferous of all in defending POTO?
