Kerala makes it five in a row

KOTHAMANGALAM, NOV. 25. Kerala University, Thiruvananthapuram, made it five in a row in the South Zone inter-University football championship which concluded at the Mar Athanasius College Ground here on Sunday.

The defending champion blanked last year's runner-up, host Mahatma Gandhi University (Kottayam), 2-0 and bagged the title with an all-win record (9 points) in the semifinal league. A. Shaji and Robin Jacob netted the goals for the champion.

Calicut University, which drubbed Madras 5-0 today, finished runner-up with six points, while Mahatma Gandhi (3) was third.

The top four teams here - Kerala, Calicut, Mahatma Gandhi and Madras - qualified for the all-India inter-University championship which begins in Kolkata on December 12. The Kerala Football Association president, Mr K.M.I. Mather, gave away the prizes.

The results (semifinal league): Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram 2 (A. Shaji 20th, Robin Jacob 54th) bt Mahatma Gandhi, Kottayam 0; Calicut University, Kozhikode 5 (T.V. Mohd Harris 13th & 52nd, C.C. Hanson 23 & 38th, P.V. Vinoy 75th) bt Madras 0.
