Thailand for greater security cooperation with India
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALORE, NOV. 26. Thailand is willing to work with India for
greater security cooperation under the framework of the United
Nations in the light of the recent terrorist strikes, the Prime
Minister of Thailand, Mr. Thaksin Shinawatra, said here on
Monday.
He was speaking to presspersons at the airport soon after his
arrival by a special Thai Royal Air Force flight for a two-day
visit. Mr. Shinawatra begins his visit to India from Bangalore.
This is the first visit by a Prime Minister of Thailand to India
in 12 years. On cooperation in defence matters between the two
countries, Mr. Shinawatra said ``it will depend on what areas we
work together.''
He said his country looked forward to establishing closer
economic cooperation with India. ``We shall like to look for
areas where we can synergise,'' he said.
Bangalore, he said, was a well-known centre for science and
technology. Thailand would like to explore the opportunities so
that the two countries could work together in these areas.
Mr. Shinawatra was received at the airport by the Governor, Ms.
V.S.Rama Devi, the Chief Minister, Mr. S.M.Krishna, the Home
Minister, Mr. Mallikarjuna Kharge, and the Mayor, Mr.
K.Chandrashekar.
